reimbursement by your insurance

If you purchase your hair prosthesis, wig or hairpiece from RANA, you may be entitled to reimbursement from your health insurance/health fund. Or even a full refund. The amount of this amount depends on the health insurance fund you are insured with and whether there are any additional insurance policies, such as hospitalization insurance.

Request a refund

To be eligible for compensation or full reimbursement, you must provide the following to your health insurance fund:

  • The Purchase Invoice. You will receive this from us when you purchase your wig, hair prosthesis or hairpiece. You must then submit the original invoice to your health insurance fund.
  • The Application Form. The doctor/dermatologist where you are being treated will give you a prescription for a wig, hairpiece or hair prosthesis. This serves as an application form and must be completed in full.

We advise you to contact your health insurance company in advance to know exactly what amount you can get back.

From 2022, there will be a new VAT scheme for hairpieces and wigs in Belgium. If the wig or hairpiece is reimbursed by the compulsory health insurance in Belgium and if it can be considered a medical device, the lower VAT rate of 6% may apply. This reduced rate only applies if certain conditions are met:

  • There is a valid prescription from the treating physician (in the case of baldness due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy) or from the dermatologist (in the case of baldness of more than thirty percent due to skin conditions such as alopecia areata or cicatricial alopecia). Please note: the prescription must still be valid and may not be older than three months!
  • The reduced rate is only valid for people who live in Belgium and are insured.

If you meet these conditions, you can order your hairpiece or wig online at the reduced VAT rate of 6%. Because all our items and products are priced at a standard VAT rate of 21%, we have created a separate page where you can fill in your details and upload your valid doctor's prescription. After we have checked your details, we will send you a unique code that you can use to order the products at the reduced rate.

If you want to order accessories, small hairpieces or care products, the rate of 21% applies.
